Alzheimer’s Speaks is a Minneapolis-based organization that is dedicated to educating the public, businesses and families about the disease and other forms of dementia. The coverage below focuses on an announcement by Watertown, Wisconsin that it is “officially a dementia friendly community.” Citizens and businesses will be given information on how to interact with those with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia.
Today more than 5.4 million Americans suffer from Alzheimer’s disease. By 2050 nearly 15 million people, age 65 or older, will be diagnosed with the disease. The cost to provide care for dementia patients will grow from $200 billion in 2013 to $1.2 trillion in 2050.
